Contamination Assessment
Acronyms and “buzz word” terminology abound in the environmental industry and can leave a person wondering what, exactly, they are supposed to be doing. There are numerous regulatory statutes and rules that define a variety of State and Federal Programs, but all of them are designed to answer the same basic questions.
Is my property contaminated?
If it is contaminated, how extensive is the contamination?
What clean-up strategy will be the most effective in returning the property to productive use?
Solana’s personnel are expert in the collection of valid, reproducible, legally defensible data which defines the environmental condition of your property. We use a variety of sampling and screening techniques to collect soil, sediment, surface water, groundwater and air samples, so that areas of contamination can be targeted and defined with minimal interruption to your business operations. Our goal is to identify the contaminants, delineate the contamination, and design and operate a remedial system which minimizes your ongoing environmental liability, quickly and cost-effectively. Our reports follow regulatory guidelines and provide the reviewer with a complete set of data so that review times and clarifying comments are kept to a minimum.
Common types of contaminants include:
Petroleum fuels, oils and waste oils (LNAPL)
Drycleaning and industrial solvents (DNAPL)
Metals (Lead, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, mercury, etc.)
Herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers
Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
The United States Environmental Protection Agency administers a variety of cleanup programs, most notably the "Superfund" and "Brownfields" programs. Programs administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to address site contamination include:
Petroleum Cleanup Program
Drycleaning Solvent Cleanup Program
Brownfield Site Rehabilitation Program
RBCA Contaminated Site Cleanup
